'Tigh Tara’ in National Siansa Finals – Again!

BEST WISHES TO TIGH TARA FOR ALL-IRELAND SIANSA FINAL

Loreto’s traditional group, Tigh Tara, recently won through to the All Ireland Final of the Gael Linn Siansa competition, which will be held in the National Concert Hall, Dublin on Sunday evening (10th April). This is the third time that a group from Loreto has made it to the final in recent years, which in itself is a major achievement for all concerned.

In the initial round in December, the group made a twelve-minute recording of a selection of tunes including a jig, O'Carolan, waltz, march, slip jig and a reel as well as a song in Irish. They were selected to take part in the workshop round which took place in Monaghan on Monday 14 February. After that event, they were chosen as one of eight groups to take place in the All Ireland final in The National Concert Hall in Dublin.

The Final will be broadcast on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltacht (https://www.rte.ie/radio/rnag/) live on the night, beginning at 7.30pm and is also being streamed live on YouTube. A spokesperson from each group will be interviewed during the broadcast. The event will be recorded and each group’s performance will be available on YouTube after the event.

The members of Tigh Tara are Niamh Murray, Finn Mooney, Ronan Close, Peadar Connor, Sinead Close, Cara Mooney, Conrad O Coisneachain and Alicia Doherty.

Miss Toner paid tribute to these talented musicians and thanked both Mrs Maeve Close and Miss Aoibheann Agnew, who coach the group, for all their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

On Friday, the staff and pupils gave the group a big send off before they left for Dublin. Tigh Tara performed for the students in the Sports Hall and were presented with a cake in celebration of all that they have achieved. We wish them every success and enjoyment in the Siansa Final on Sunday evening- we know they will do us proud.
