The College was very proud to host the Mary Ward Inter-school Public Speaking Competition for KS3 pupils. This is an annual competition between Loreto College Coleraine and our sister school, Loreto Grammar School Omagh. Competitors are required to prepare a short speech on a given topic. The topics for the speeches always reflect the core values of a Loreto Education and our foundress Mary Ward. The competition is a wonderful example of the Loreto ethos in action and a lovely opportunity for pupils from both schools to meet in person and enjoy each other’s company. The prize winners were :
Year 8 :
Ist: Grace Donnelly 8C who spoke about “ 1000 Friends on Facebook, but is digital friendship real friendship?”
2nd: Zuneira Khan: 8C who spoke about “ Honesty is always the best policy.”
Year 9 :
Ist: Isabella Coughlan- Loreto Omagh who spoke about “ The importance of manners in today’s world”
2nd: Lucy Meenan- Loreto Omagh who also spoke about “ The importance of manners in today’s world”
3rd: Ava Mc Bride- Loreto Omagh who also spoke about “ The importance of manners in today’s world”
4th Sophie Kelly 9C - Loreto Coleraine who spoke about “ Social Media – Friend or Foe”.
Year 10:
1st Doireann Campbell 10G – Loreto Coleraine who spoke about : “ Education is the most important weapon to change our world- Nelson Mandela”.
2nd: Olivia Mc Bride: 10E – Loreto Coleraine who spoke about : “World Peace is an impossible dream.”
3rd : Sarah Mc Tague: 10E- Loreto Coleraine who spoke about : Education is the most important weapon to change our world- Nelson Mandela.”
4th ( Joint) Maire Deeny 10E : Loreto Coleraine who spoke about “ Education is the most important weapon to change our world.”
Caitlyn Jones 10F : Loreto Coleraine who spoke about “ World Peace is an impossible dream.”
A special mention must be given to Doireann, who has entered this competition for the last three years, as a year 8, year 9 and year 10 student and each time she has been placed 1st in her category of the competition.
