BT Young Scientist 2017

Three projects, were selected from 2300 entries to represent Loreto:

· Emmett Brolly came 1st in the Senior Individual Chemical, Physical and Mathematical section with a project entitled ‘Bead Fountain’.

· Sian Donaghy and Donal Close in the Intermediate Group Chemical, Physical and Mathematical section with a project entitled ‘Phonebook Physics’. Sian and Donal won the Best NI project and were highly commended in their section.



· Sean Doherty, Dominic Bradley and Fearghal Close in the Senior Individual Chemical, Physical and Mathematical section with a project entitled ‘Crumple Zone’.


All three entrant’s contributions led to Loreto being crowned Best School in NI.


As a result of Donal and Sian’s success at the event, they were offered a 3 day workshop in University College, Dublin at the BTYS business bootcamp, where they represented the school mixing with many other prizewinners and BT employees. A video of their experience can be seen here.
