04/04/2012 LEAGUE TITLE FOR LORETO SOCCER TEAM
The Year 9 Soccer team from Loreto College Coleraine has lifted the Coleraine & District League title for 2011-12 following a tremendous season of competitive fixtures.
On the way to the final, the boys recorded a 4-2 victory against Cross and Passion College Ballycastle (away), a 1-1 draw against Limavady High School (home), and a 5-1 victory against Cookstown High School. In the final, played on Monday 2nd April, the boys defeated Limavady High School at the Joey Dunlop Centre, Ballymoney.
Top scorers in the season were Conor Gillen, Liam Tosh, Fergal Dillon and Daniel O’Kane. The members of the victorious team were: Harry Butcher, Eoin Canning, Mark Cassidy, Alex Christie, Fergal Dillon, Joel Dinsmore, Conor Gillen, Oran Hartin, Jamie Howard, Ryan Kealey, Shane McIntyre, Shea McTaggart, John Joe O’Neill, Daniel O’Kane, Sean Quinn and Liam Tosh.
Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, paid tribute to all the members of this outstanding team on a brilliant season and well-deserved league title, and to their coach Mr Paul Byrne. This was a doubly exciting success for the boys because, as a Year 8 team, they lifted the 2010-11 Year 8 Coleraine & District League title too. Success is clearly in this team’s game plan!
