14/03/2012 SUCCESSFUL TOUR FOR LORETO NETBALL TEAMS
The Senior, Intermediate and Junior Netball teams from Loreto College Coleraine enjoyed an extremely successful tour to Belfast and Antrim from 8th-10th March 2012.
Accompanied by teachers Mrs Maureen McCullough and Ms Julie Wilson, the teams contested five matches and also spent a day at the Antrim Forum, at the U21 Netball European Championships.
The Senior team, comprising Year 13 students Clare Tracey, Megan Kerr, Anna Moloney, Cristin O’Kane, Aileen McAllister, Megan McWilliams, Laura McIntyre, Justyna Pajak and Shawnee Black, played three matches. The girls defeated Dominican College Fortwilliam 29-13, defeated Queen’s University 30-25, and defeated Grosvenor Grammar School 19-16 - a clean sweep of victories for a talented team!
The Junior team, comprising Year 10 students Shannon McWilliams, Aine McNamee, Caite Skelly, Amy Doherty, Nicole Cosgrove, Shannon Donaghy, Rachel McIntyre, Ellen Tracey, Anna McAllister, Rhiannon Bell, Niamh Wallace and Carla McErlean, played two matches, defeating Antrim Grammar 16-6 and losing narrowly, 17-14, to Methodist College Belfast.
On Saturday 10th March, both Seniors and Juniors along with the members of the Intermediate team, Year 11 and Year 12 students Bronagh McKinney, Nicole O’Neill, Rosanna McAleese, Eilis McNamee, Ciara Dinsmore, Katie McCullough and Victoria Bell, acted as ball girls for two matches in the European U21 Championships at the Antrim Forum: the girls were on court for the Wales v. Northern Ireland and Scotland v. England fixtures.
During the tour, the team-members also enjoyed some retail therapy in Belfast and some team-building. Mrs Maureen McCullough, Head of PE, and Ms Julie Wilson, PE Teacher, commented that the tour had been a tremendous success, with great results being recorded following brilliant play by all the Loreto teams. Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, congratulated the team members and their coaches on a superb weekend’s competition and team-building.
