13/02/2012 JOURNALISM TALK FOR LORETO COLLEGE STUDENTS

Students of AS and A level English Literature and English Language at Loreto College Coleraine enjoyed a talk on careers in the field of journalism on Friday 10th February.

John Mulgrew, a former student of Loreto College, now works as a freelance journalist, writing daily for both the Belfast Telegraph and the Irish News.  In an informative and entertaining talk, he told the capacity audience of sixth formers in the College Library about his experience working as a journalist for two daily newspapers.  Students were also given a clear idea of the career paths they could follow if they wished to work in print or broadcast journalism, as well as hearing an honest account of the hard work, pressure and job satisfaction involved in such a career.

Mrs Caragh Little, Head of English at Loreto College, paid tribute to John Mulgrew for such an interesting talk, commenting that it had been inspiring for the current A level students to see a former student who was now so successful in such a competitive field, and to learn how the work they were doing on a daily basis to prepare for their AS and A level examinations could have such direct relevance to their future employment.
