08/02/2012 SUCCESS FOR LORETO COLLEGE TEAM IN EUROPEAN YOUTH PARLIAMENT COMPETITION

A team from Loreto College Coleraine has become one of only six from throughout Northern Ireland to progress to the Northern Ireland Regional Forum of the European Youth Parliament.

The Loreto College team of twelve Year 13 pupils has been allocated a resolution to write and debate on Thursday 29th March 2012 at Belfast Metropolitan College. In order to get to this stage, the pupils had to collectively write an essay in response to the question: “Is the Single Currency detrimental to the economic stability of the European Union?”   Each team member also had to write an introductory paragraph outlining their role in the research and writing of the essay.   This was submitted in December.

The team members are: Jack Mc Cann (Captain), Gemma Reid ( chief Linguist), Eve O’Loan ( Linguist), Fiona Mc Grath, Norene Mc Bride, Sean Mc Kendry, Orrin Devlin, Ronan Cunning, Oonagh Nugent ( linguist),  Catherine Mc Laughlin ( linguist), Niamh Meehan, and Clare Tracey ( linguist).

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, congratulated the team-members and their teacher, Mrs Siobhan Mullan (Co-ordinator of Public Speaking and Debating at the school) on their success to date in the competition, and wished them every success in the next round.
